Al-Muddaththir [The mam wearing cloak ]
| | 74:1 | يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ
| | | Ya ayyuha almuddaththiru
| | O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)!
|
| | 74:2 | قُمْ فَأَنْذِرْ
| | | Qum faanthir
| | Arise and deliver thy warning!
|
| | 74:3 | وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
| | | Warabbaka fakabbir
| | And thy Lord do thou magnify!
|
| | 74:4 | وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
| | | Wathiyabaka fatahhir
| | And thy garments keep free from stain!
|
| | 74:5 | وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ
| | | Waalrrujza faohjur
| | And all abomination shun!
|
| | 74:6 | وَلا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ
| | | Wala tamnun tastakthiru
| | Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)!
|
| | 74:7 | وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ
| | | Walirabbika faisbir
| | But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant!
|
| | 74:8 | فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ
| | | Fa-itha nuqira fee alnnaqoori
| | Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded,
|
| | 74:9 | فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
| | | Fathalika yawma-ithin yawmun AAaseerun
| | That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,-
|
| | 74:10 | عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
| | | AAala alkafireena ghayru yaseerin
| | Far from easy for those without Faith.
|
| | 74:11 | ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
| | | Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheedan
| | Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!-
|
| | 74:12 | وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالا مَمْدُودًا
| | | WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdoodan
| | To whom I granted resources in abundance,
|
| | 74:13 | وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
| | | Wabaneena shuhoodan
| | And sons to be by his side!-
|
| | 74:14 | وَمَهَّدْتُ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا
| | | Wamahhadtu lahu tamheedan
| | To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable!
|
| | 74:15 | ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
| | | Thumma yatmaAAu an azeeda
| | Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);-
|
| | 74:16 | كَلا إِنَّهُ كَانَ لآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا
| | | Kalla innahu kana li-ayatina AAaneedan
| | By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory!
|
| | 74:17 | سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا
| | | Saorhiquhu saAAoodan
| | Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities!
|
| | 74:18 | إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
| | | Innahu fakkara waqaddara
| | For he thought and he plotted;-
|
| | 74:19 | فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
| | | Faqutila kayfa qaddara
| | And woe to him! How he plotted!-
|
| | 74:20 | ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
| | | Thumma qutila kayfa qaddara
| | Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!-
|
| | 74:21 | ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
| | | Thumma nathara
| | Then he looked round;
|
| | 74:22 | ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
| | | Thumma AAabasa wabasara
| | Then he frowned and he scowled;
|
| | 74:23 | ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ
| | | Thumma adbara waistakbara
| | Then he turned back and was haughty;
|
| | 74:24 | فَقَالَ إِنْ هَذَا إِلا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
| | | Faqala in hatha illa sihrun yu/tharu
| | Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old;
|
| | 74:25 | إِنْ هَذَا إِلا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ
| | | In hatha illa qawlu albashari
| | "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!"
|
| | 74:26 | سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
| | | Saosleehi saqara
| | Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire!
|
| | 74:27 | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ
| | | Wama adraka ma saqaru
| | And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is?
|
| | 74:28 | لا تُبْقِي وَلا تَذَرُ
| | | La tubqee wala tatharu
| | Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!-
|
| | 74:29 | لَوَّاحَةٌ لِلْبَشَرِ
| | | Lawwahatun lilbashari
| | Darkening and changing the colour of man!
|
| | 74:30 | عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
| | | AAalayha tisAAata AAashara
| | Over it are Nineteen.
|
| | 74:31 | وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلا مَلائِكَةً وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلا فِتْنَةً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا وَلا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلا كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلا هُوَ وَمَا هِيَ إِلا ذِكْرَى لِلْبَشَرِ
| | | Wama jaAAalna as-haba alnnari illa mala-ikatan wama jaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheena kafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitaba wayazdada allatheena amanoo eemanan wala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitaba waalmu/minoona waliyaqoola allatheena fee quloobihim maradun waalkafiroona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalika yudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashao wama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wama hiya illa thikra lilbashari
| | And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind.

| | 74:32 | كَلا وَالْقَمَرِ
| | | Kalla waalqamari
| | Nay, verily: By the Moon,
|
| | 74:33 | وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
| | | Waallayli ith adbara
| | And by the Night as it retreateth,
|
| | 74:34 | وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ
| | | Waalssubhi itha asfara
| | And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,-
|
| | 74:35 | إِنَّهَا لإحْدَى الْكُبَرِ
| | | Innaha la-ihda alkubari
| | This is but one of the mighty (portents),
|
| | 74:36 | نَذِيرًا لِلْبَشَرِ
| | | Natheeran lilbashari
| | A warning to mankind,-
|
| | 74:37 | لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
| | | Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama aw yataakhkhara
| | To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-
|
| | 74:38 | كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
| | | Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheenatun
| | Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.
|
| | 74:39 | إِلا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ
| | | Illa as-haba alyameeni
| | Except the Companions of the Right Hand.
|
| | 74:40 | فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
| | | Fee jannatin yatasaaloona
| | (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,
|
| | 74:41 | عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
| | | AAani almujrimeena
| | And (ask) of the Sinners:
|
| | 74:42 | مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ
| | | Ma salakakum fee saqara
| | "What led you into Hell Fire?"
|
| | 74:43 | قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ
| | | Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleena
| | They will say: "We were not of those who prayed;
|
| | 74:44 | وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ
| | | Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeena
| | "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent;
|
| | 74:45 | وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ
| | | Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkha-ideena
| | "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;
|
| | 74:46 | وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
| | | Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi alddeeni
| | "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
|
| | 74:47 | حَتَّى أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ
| | | Hatta atana alyaqeenu
| | "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain."
|
| | 74:48 | فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ
| | | Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu alshshafiAAeena

| | 74:49 | فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
| | | Fama lahum AAani alttathkirati muAArideena
| | Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?-
|
| | 74:50 | كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَةٌ
| | | Kaannahum humurun mustanfiratun
| | As if they were affrighted asses,
|
| | 74:51 | فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ
| | | Farrat min qaswaratin
| | Fleeing from a lion!
|
| | 74:52 | بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَى صُحُفًا مُنَشَّرَةً
| | | Bal yureedu kullu imri-in minhum an yu/ta suhufan munashsharatan
| | Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out!
|
| | 74:53 | كَلا بَلْ لا يَخَافُونَ الآخِرَةَ
| | | Kalla bal la yakhafoona al-akhirata
| | By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter,
|
| | 74:54 | كَلا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ
| | | Kalla innahu tathkiratun
| | Nay, this surely is an admonition:
|
| | 74:55 | فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ
| | | Faman shaa thakarahu
| | Let any who will, keep it in remembrance!
|
| | 74:56 | وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ
| | | Wama yathkuroona illa an yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu alttaqwa waahlu almaghfirati
| | But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness.
